Maniac Mikes Café

March has started and the year is on. Here at the café, we have noticed many new faces lately and they are not just eating. They are asking questions about learning to fly, where to get paint, upholstery, and other airport related questions. This may be a good indicator that we may be rebounding. As we go through this cold weather, you may be noticing that your fruit and vegetables are not up to par. Maniac-Mikes works hard at getting the freshest, quality products, for you the customer. Below is a quick snapshot from produce news this week.
TOMATOES
No good news. First we had the Florida freeze followed by the early February freeze in Mexico. Prices are off from their very scary prices, but not by much.
LETTUCE
OUCH! The only lettuce that falls into the semi-reasonable area is green leaf. All the rest are suffering from the double hit of poor weather.
BELL PEPPER
Pretty much heart attack pricing. This is an area where the recent Mexican freeze has taken its toll. There was damage to the fruit on the vine and also to blossoms for future fruit. This will be interesting but maybe painful to watch.
AVOCADOS
The Chilean season is winding down, oil content is up. The California season is still young and quality is fitful. Both are running to the smaller sizes. And Mexico is passed their peak production. For now, supply from everywhere will run you a bit more $$.
MELONS
In a word, unsettled. Much of the fruit is South American, with some coming from closer to home-Mexico. Right now, neither is cheap.

We thank you for your patronage, and remember if your experience was not up to your expectations please let us know so that we can address the problem.

Life is short, break the rules, forgive quickly,
kiss slowly, love truly, laugh uncontrollably,
and never regret anything that made you smile.
