Maniac Mikes Café
May !!!
Here it is already, and time to give thanks to our Mothers for putting up with us for all of these years. As many of you know, I lost my mother May 29, 1998 to ALS. Every year the café donates a large portion of Mother’s Day’s sales to the ALS Association for the research and development of a cure for this disease.
After doing this for the last 10 years, it has been brought to my attention by many a patron to the café and the airport that they had also lost a relative to his crippling disease. We have been fortunate to have private donations to the organization arise from this event and we collectively have contributed over $18,000 dollars so far. If you find it in your heart to give to a worthy cause, I feel this is one of them. I thank you for your support, as does ALS, in this endeavor.
All checks made out to ALS are directly given to them and a tax deduction is given though them, all cash is complied and sent directly to ALS. Just what is ALS? Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a motor neuron disease, first described in 1869 by the noted French neurologist Jean-Martin Charcot. Although the cause of ALS is not completely understood, the last decade has brought a wealth of new scientific understanding about the disease that provides hope for the future.
Lou Gehrig first brought national and international attention to the disease in 1939 when he abruptly retired from baseball after being diagnosed with ALS. Most commonly, the disease strikes people between the ages of 40 and 70, and as many as 30,000 Americans have the disease at any given time. ALS is a neurodegenerative disease that usually attacks both upper and lower motor neurons and causes degeneration throughout the brain and spinal cord. A common first symptom is a painless weakness in a hand, foot, arm or leg, which occurs in more than half of all cases. Other early symptoms include speech, swallowing or walking difficulty.
As always we thank you for you donations at this time of year, if your mother is still alive make a call and let her know that you Love her, for she may be gone before you know it. Bless you all.
Maniac Mikes would like to thank you for your patronage and support and if there is something that we can do to improve, or you have comments, please contact us at 909-982-9886, or leave email at maniac@maniac-mikes.com
