Sept. 9, 2009 When I last sent an update, I had just returned from Iraq completing a TAR (Theater Area Recon). I have been here in FT. Riley now 3 months and I have trained and prepared my BiTT (Boarder Transition Team) for deployment.
We will be departing tomorrow for Kuwait, and from there we will deploy into our AO (Area of Operation) for our one year tour. We will be conducting operations as an 11 man team to “Teach, Coach, & Mentor” an Iraqi Border Guard Brigade located on the Iranian Border just north of AL- Bosrah in the Maysan Province.
Our training here at FT. Riley has consisted of everything from the standard weapons qualification to “Cultural Awareness”, and operating some of the newest electronic gizmo’s that the Army has (no steam gauges allowed!).
My time here has not been all business though, and I was able to take the opportunity to go flying with one of Cable’s most renowned visitors, Mr. Frank Klein. With the help of Chuck and Mary Barnett, I linked up with Frank at Junction City Airport just west of Fort Riley. Frank has a nice little Piper Pacer which performed very nicely on a hot and humid Kansas summer day. It was a nice little reprieve from the Army life of FT. Riley. My thanks go out to Frank for his generosity. I’ll see you all in about 6 months during my mid-tour leave.
Regards,
MAJ Peter Queyrel
11-4 BiTT Commander

7SEP09. Life Scout Christopher Keys , of Upland Troop 601 proudly completed his project benefiting the community at large and Cable Airport. The Eagle Project is the last hurdle the boy must jump before taking the BSA Eagle Board of Review for the organization’s highest achievement level of EAGLE SCOUT.
Christopher's project included a “winterization” of the Ground School public meeting room, to divert rain water away from the building, to square up the warped and sticky entrance door, and to build a picnic bench for students and the general public to sit in the shade of the tall green trees and enjoy the breezes and airplane sounds of Upland, and Cable Airport.
Christopher's management and design of the project included all the logistics of supplies, budgeting, and personnel to complete the job. Christopher personally directed supporting Scouts, family and friends who came together to lend a hand in this noteworthy community project.
Bob Cable gave special thanks to Christopher and all the Scouts, Boys and Adult Leaders for their unselfish and inspirational service to our country.
