September, Labor Day weekend jammed with last of the summer vacations of the year for many, as school is just around the corner. Autumn is upon us, as the weather is doing what the weather does best, change, and daily. What beautiful weather we had on the 22nd of August thanks to the Polley’s hosting a wonderful fly-in with many beautiful planes flying in and from the airport in attendance, which by the way, kept the crowd at the café happy watching all of the aircraft activity.

Corvettes convene at Maniac-Mikes… The Pomona Valley Corvette Club has worked out an agreement with the Café to host a bi-monthly Corvette owners gathering. The café is open and serving from the lunch menu and the car owners are chatting about the latest and greatest in the Corvette world. If you own a Corvette, you are welcome to join in. Thursday evening 6:00pm to 9:00pm, dates are as follows; Sept. 3, Sept.17, Oct. 1, Oct. 15, Oct. 29, etc. (every other Thursday).

Water Conservation, a big topic in the news at this time. As a food establishment, we are required by law to practice safe food handling at all times, and that requires a lot of water. In a way of conserving, we recycle as much of our water that we possibly can. All of the water not consumed at the tables is used to water the outside and inside plants. Water collected from rinsing vegetables is used on the outside yuccas and century plants. It may not seem like a lot, but from the tables alone we average 5 gallons a day, in the back about 15, or 20 gallons a day times 7 or about 140 gallons a week. We also recycle all of our cans, glass and plastic bottles. We encourage everyone to do your part in recycling whenever possible.
